Riyadh
King Saud University (KSU) is Saudi Arabia’s first modern university, founded in 1957 in Riyadh. It is one of the Kingdom’s flagship public universities, with a large campus, strong research profile, and faculties spanning medicine, engineering, IT, science, humanities, and business.
Today KSU enrolls tens of thousands of students, including international applicants, and offers bachelor, master, and doctoral pathways. English and Arabic are used depending on the major. In 2023 the university became an independent non-profit institution under the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), while remaining a top destination for scholarship and self-funded study in the capital.
Academically, KSU is known for high-demand pathways in medicine and health sciences, engineering, computer science and information systems, business and public administration, natural sciences, and a full range of humanities and social science colleges. Many programs prepare graduates for professional licensing or competitive postgraduate study in Saudi Arabia and abroad.
Campus life in Riyadh includes large teaching facilities, research centers, libraries, and student services oriented toward both Saudi and international learners. Separate academic arrangements for male and female students are part of the university’s structure, and housing support is commonly available for scholarship recipients according to university and sponsor rules.
For international applicants, KSU is typically considered early when shortlisting flagship government options in the capital: strong brand recognition, a deep program catalog, and a long track record with overseas students.
